Just before 6 am on September 8, a semi-truck lost a wheel traveling northbound on I-95 starting a chain reaction of accidents that lead to a car catching fire and the death of a man. The wheel bounced across the median and struck a car in the southbound lanes.
NBC Miami reported in the apparent chaos that followed, a pick-up truck
rear-ended a car. The impact caused the car to catch fire, trapping the driver inside. He was killed in the fire and another driver on the road was injured. The accident caused southbound I-95 to be shut down for two hours and caused three hour delays on all of I-95.
Many do not think of rear-end car accidents as having such serious consequences. Also known as "whiplash accidents,"
rear-end collisions are some of the most common types of
car accidents. Because of the fact that oftentimes there is little damage done to the car, insurance companies may try to downplay the severity of injuries received in such crashes.
Rear-end car accidents can certainly cause whiplash among other serious injuries including TMJ disorder and spinal problems. The
Spine Research Institute of San Diego states the leading cause of cervical spine injuries is whiplash due to
rear-end crashes. If you are
rear-ended and struggling with the insurance companies, a
