US 19 Is One Of The Most Dangerous Roads In America

In 2005 Dateline NBC dubbed US 19 in Florida as one of the most dangerous roads in the country.  Many improvements have been put in place on US 19.  However, it continues to be a dangerous place to drive a car.  For example, just this month was a severe car accident that injured fived people and closed all lanes between Alderman Road and Innisbrook Drive in Palm Harbor Florida on U.S. 19. 

Witnesses said that a Pontiac was traveling northbound very fast when it hit a Toyota Highlander that was turning north onto U.S. 19 from Romeo Boulevard.  After the accident the Pontiac hit a utility pole and knocked it down. 

One person was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph's hospital in Tampa, another to Bayfront Medical center in St. Petersburg, and three others were flown to Bayfront as trauma alerts.
