In order to become board certified, a Florida lawyer must have participated in a minimum number of civil trials and pass a competency exam. Less than 1% of all Florida lawyers are board certified civil trial lawyers. The accomplishment allows Scott to call himself an expert in Civil Trial Law.
Scott has achieved an "AV" rating by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, a well known National legal publication. "AV" is the highest ranking possible by an attorney. It is based on both ability and ethics. The ranking is a result of written evaluations submitted by judges and attorneys. In addition, he is a member of "The Million Dollar Advocates Forum", which is an organization of trial attorneys that have achieved million dollar verdicts and settlements. Less than 1% of all attorneys in the United States are members.
Scott began his legal carrier in Tampa in 1990 after graduating from the University of Florida College of Law. For the first 10 years as a lawyer, he defended Hospitals, Doctors, Nursing Homes, jail medical providers, and all types of people and corporations accused of causing personal injuries. During this time he advised corporations and insurance companies on when to settle a case, how much money should be offered to settle a case, and when to go to trial. He also tried many cases as a defense lawyer. This backround as a personal injury defense lawyer gives him a unique perspective in advising his current clients involved in automobile accidents. In January of 2000 he chose to fire all his defense clients and begin helping injured people and he has been doing so ever since. In February of 2006 he founded Distasio Law Firm. The firms guiding principle is to provide outstanding legal service to its clients.
Scott received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida in 1986 and his Juris Doctorate from the University Of Florida Levin College Of Law in 1990.
